Our Mission
At GARAS (Gloucestershire Action
for Refugees and Asylum Seekers)
we offer support to those seeking
asylum in Gloucestershire, welcoming
them when they arrive, advocating
for them in their daily struggles,
supporting them if they face being
sent back as well as helping them
adjust to their long term future
if they are recognised as refugees.

Urgent Need
Food:
Thank you for all the groups, Churches and schools that have donated harvest goods which we are able to give out throughout the year to destitute clients. As ever, we still welcome donated items such as: tinned fish, tinned tomatoes and basmati rice. Also, tinned vegetables and tinned fruit; toothbrushes; toothpaste; shampoo are needed. You may also like to to include sugar which we can include in refreshments given to clients on our drop-in days.
Furniture:
Several clients at the moment are trying to set up their homes. If you have any furniture you would like to donate, we would be interested to talk to you. Due to lack of storage, we would need to discuss things with you to organise delivery. Suggested items include:
- Beds (double and single)
- Wardrobes
- Table & chairs
- Sofas
You could also nominate GARAS to be the recipient of Waitrose's 'Community Matters' scheme (green tokens given at the till which translates into a financial donation to local charitable organisations). Please pick up a form from your local Waitrose.
Alternatively, you can nominate GARAS to be supported through ASDA's 'Community Life' project. Please pick up a form from your local store - NB these are available at the new ASDA that has recently opened in Cheltenham.
Campaigns
We are looking for people who are interested in occasional
campaigning. It would involve e-mailing various ministers and
airlines. Please e-mail info@garas.org.uk to be added to the campaigns list.
