Designated Safeguarding Lead Officer

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week (with some ‘on call’ requirements)
Salary: £38,220 (NJC Scale 27-31)
Location: Drop in centre, Gloucester
Responsible to: Director, Safeguarding Committee and Board of Trustees
Holidays: 25 days, plus bank holidays
Period of notice: 3 months, on either side

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced safeguarding professional to join GARAS, a leading immigration charity in Gloucestershire, and help shape the future of safeguarding practice across the organisation.

The successful candidate will hold both strategic and operational responsibility for safeguarding, leading on the management of safeguarding concerns and cases while developing GARAS’s safeguarding framework, policies, procedures, training and quality assurance. 

You will work closely with other members of the Senior Team, reporting regularly to trustees, and will act as the lead point of contact for staff and volunteer safety, mental health and trauma-related crisis management, while building key partnerships across the county to reduce risk.

Adult Advice Manager

Hours: Part time, 22.5 hours per week (Mondays & Wednesdays mandatory, flexibility for the other hours)
Salary: NJC Scale 27-31 (£38,220 FTE, £22,932 pro rata’d amount)

If you’re an experienced people manager with a background in immigration advice (ideally trained to IAA Level 1), GARAS wants to hear from you. As a leading immigration charity in Gloucestershire, we’re looking for someone to lead our Adult Advice Team, guiding staff and volunteers as they support asylum seekers and refugees across the county.

Sitting on our Senior Management Team, you’ll help shape how GARAS delivers its services, making sure the advice we offer stays true to what we stand for as an organisation.

We’re a medium-sized, ambitious charity, and this role would suit someone who thrives on responsibility and wants to see their leadership make a tangible difference to people’s lives. You’ll line manage all members of the Adult Advice Team, so sound judgement, resilience and genuine warmth in your management style will be essential.

This role is based on-site at GARAS premises and will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

Volunteer Vacancies

Volunteer Social Media Co-ordinator

Are you creative and organised, and want to make a difference in people’s lives through the medium of social media? Do you have 2-4 hours a week that you could spend creating content for GARAS’ social media, and developing our online presence?

Volunteer Graphic Designer

Do you have skills and experience in branding and website support? Would you like to support GARAS by donating these skills, and one or two hours a week? We are looking for someone who has the talent and passion to help refresh our visual identity, including developing a new logo and helping to create a design for our website communications.

ESOL Volunteers

Do you hold an English teaching qualification (TEFL, CELTA or other)? Do you have a couple of hours to spare each week? GARAS has the following ESOL volunteer roles available:

Teaching an adult client in their own home – GL3 area

Teaching an adult client in their own home – GL2 area

Teaching young people as part of a group at GARAS

Lead Teacher for ESOL in the community

Teaching adults ESOL in the community

Volunteer Welcomers

Are you friendly and personable, with a willingness to serve and enjoy making people feel welcome? We have opportunities for someone like you to help in our reception area: being the first GARAS face that people see as they come for advice, and ensuring that they are comfortable as they wait. You will be good at offering refreshments and keeping the waiting list in order.

Monday Welcomers help to run the drop in

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Welcomers help to keep the appointment system flowing smoothly

Friday Welcomers help to run our food bank first thing in the morning and then help to keep the appointment system flowing smoothly
