Our Mission

At GARAS (Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers) we offer support to those seeking asylum in Gloucestershire, welcoming them when they arrive, advocating for them in their daily struggles, supporting them if they face being sent back as well as helping them adjust to their long term future if they are recognised as refugees.

Volunteer Vacancies

Welcomer – Tuesdays and Thursdays

Our Welcomers are the first face of GARAS for anyone arriving here. They are based in the reception/kitchen area, making cups of tea or coffee and making clients feel at home while they wait to be seen.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, GARAS is only open for appointments and so the doorbell and phonelines are particularly busy! We are looking for a volunteer with a welcoming manner, who is able to answer the door and clearly explain to some people when drop-in times are, whilst welcoming in those with pre-made appointments. The volunteer will also need a good telephone manner, to be able to take information over the phone and either answer queries or find the relevant person to pass the phone call to.

If you are interested, please contact Jacquie (volunteer@garas.org.uk) for an informal conversation.
