At GARAS (Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers) we offer support to those seeking asylum in Gloucestershire, welcoming them when they arrive, advocating for them in their daily struggles, supporting them if they face being sent back as well as helping them adjust to their long term future if they are recognised as refugees.

Death is one of those subjects that we often find difficult to think about – particularly our own death. But making a will is important to ensure that loved ones are provided for when we are no longer around to do so. Making a will can also be an incredible chance to help causes close to your heart.

Bestowing a gift to GARAS in your will is one way of leaving a lasting legacy to help refugees and asylum seekers to find a safe place in Gloucestershire. All legacies help our core work of providing advice, practical assistance, care and a safe place for vulnerable people such as these.

There are 2 main ways that you can leave a legacy to GARAS in your will. A residuary gift is a share of what’s left (the residue) of your estate after you have provided for your loved ones; a pecuniary gift is a fixed sum of money.

If this is something that you are considering, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you. In your written will, please use the following wording:

I give …% of the residue of my estate to GARAS (Registered Charity No. 1082388) of The Trust Centre, Falkner St, Gloucester, GL1 4SQ for its general charitable purposes. The receipt of the Trustees or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said gift.

or (pecuniary gift)

I give the sum of £… to GARAS (Registered Charity No. 1082388) of The Trust Centre, Falkner St, Gloucester, GL1 4SQ for its general charitable purposes. The receipt of the Trustees or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said gift.
